Last Monday’s opening prayer delivered by freshman Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R) in front of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives stirred up major controversy across the nation.

The Christian lawmaker was accused by House Minority Whip Jordan Harris (D) of “weaponizing” the name of Jesus to “intimidate, demean and degrade” the Muslim being sworn into the legislature that same day.

“I, Jesus, am your ambassador here today standing here representing you,” said Borowicz in opening. “The King of kings, the Lord of lords, the Great I Am, the one who’s coming back again, the one who came, died and rose again on the third day, and I’m so privileged to stand here today, so thank you for this honor, Jesus.”

At approximately the 2-minute mark, Borowicz stated, “At the name of Jesus, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus that you are Lord” — at which point, House Speaker Mike Turzai (R) cut her off.

Democrats were furious with Borowicz’s audacity to boldly pray in the name of Jesus, especially on the day that they were swearing in their first Muslim woman, Rep. Movita Johnson-Harrell (D).

After she invoked the name of Jesus 13 times, they not only shut her down but also ridiculed her and demanded she apologize for her Islamaphobia.

House Democratic Leader Frank Dermody called the invocation “beneath the dignity of this House,” while Democratic Governor Tom Wolf said he was “horrified” by the prayer.

Johnson-Harrell also took great offense, telling the Pennsylvania Capital-Star that her colleague’s comments “blatantly represented the Islamophobia that exists among some leaders — leaders that are supposed to represent the people.”

Borowicz was recently invited to appear on “The Todd Starnes Radio Show” on Fox Nation where she elaborated on her reasoning behind the prayer as well as the double-standard held by Democrats when it comes to Christianity.

“You can see the Scripture as you stand up there and pray, that we all know the truth and the truth shall set you free,” Borowicz told Starnes in reference to the Bible verse John 8:32 etched in the House chamber. She merely wanted to speak to this truth that our founding fathers stood for, and she considered it a great privilege to do so.

In spite of being pressured to apologize, the preacher’s wife who prays daily is standing her ground by her Lord and Savior.

“I don’t apologize for it because that’s how I pray almost every day,” she shared. “It doesn’t matter who I’m standing in front of — I’m standing for Jesus no matter what.”

Starnes, who appropriately titled his opinion piece on Fox “Pennsylvania Democrats: Allah is fine. Jesus is not,”pointed out that the outrage from Democrats over prayer was “rather selective.” What few media outlets covered is that only minutes after Borowicz invoked the name of Jesus and quoted the Bible, a Muslim cleric spoke an Arabic prayer while quoting the Koran.

Interestingly, Democrats and the media alike offered no criticism over the Muslim prayer also directed toward their higher power.

“So if a Muslim can pray to Allah in the Pennsylvania statehouse, why can’t a Christian pray in the name of Jesus?” Borowicz told Starnes, adding, “That’s what my 15-year-old son said last night. There’s a double-standard.”

“As Christian, we don’t pray differently based on who we’re standing in front of,” the devout Christian mother explained. “So whether that would have been in front of a crowd at my church and Christians or before Muslims or before Hindus I stand for Jesus no matter what and no matter who I’m in front of.”

Borowicz called it “ridiculous” that her prayer could be regarded as Islamophobic as it was not directed towards anyone but Jesus. She believes people get so offended because there’s power in His name.

“It’s time for Christians and other people to start standing up and speaking out,” she charged. “I think we’ve been silent for too long.”
